President Abdul Hamid on Sunday urged scouts to help keep children and youths away from drugs, bigotry, communalism, terrorism and militancy.
The President said this while inaugurating the camping of the ’10th Bangladesh and SAANSO Scout Jamboree’ atNational Scout Training Centre here. “Scouting can make the future generation of our country as modern, progressive and creative,” Hamid said.
The President also said scouts at first extend their hands in social development activities, including tree plantation, conservation of the environment and biodiversity, and then work to make people aware on how to curb the effects of climate change, flood, earthquake, landslideandfire.
Lauding the role of scouts who come forward in any crisis, Abdul Hamid said, “Scouts have been playing a vital role in combating natural disasters and providing humanitarian services.”
He hoped their efforts will also be accelerated further in the days to come.
“The present government has set a target to make Bangladesh a middle-country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041. With the formulation and implementation of a government policy, Bangladesh has already become a country of low middle-income one.”
To continue this development process, the new generation will have to develop themselves as skilled and filled with humanitarian values, he said.
“I urge the scout leaders to lead the next generation as to become skilled human resources for participating in the ongoing movement of Bangladesh,” he added. The President also said, “Your stance will be against drugs, terrorismandmilitancy. You’ll always have to boost the Liberation War spirit, patriotism, responsibility to the country and humanity in your minds.” President of Bangladesh Scouts and chief cocoordinator of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) project at Prime Minister’s Office Abul Kamal Azad and Jamboree chiefand also national commissioner of the scoutsDr Mozammel Haque Khan delivered their speech.
Around 11,000 scouts from home and abroad are taking part in different activities in the six-day camping.
Secretaries to the Presidentand his entourage were also present at the inaugural session.
