Help flood affected people

FLOODS have destroyed crops on nearly 2.75 lakh hectares of land in 29 districts as news reports said highlighting the plight of the farmers who appear to have no chance to make fresh plantation in the field if the flood waters stay longer. The devastation has also caused severe damage to fisheries of private farmers and vegetables in the field sending prices up in the city markets beyond limits. Floods have also forced a total of 1130 schools to closure in eight north and northeastern districts, as their buildings have been submerged by water. These schools, 310 secondary and 820 primary schools, remained closed for the past few days while rural educational institutions at many other places are only partly functioning as most students are abstaining from classes as roads leading to the schools remained partly or fully submerged. The Department of Primary Education has confirmed the situation saying it is particularly critical at Jamalpur and Lalmonirhat districts.
Floods in the districts have affected the people with all severity but visible government presence is lacking to lend support to whatever help the people need in the affected areas. Particularly the rescue and rehabilitation of the people with food and drinking water and shelter for river erosion victims are most conspicuous by its absence. The lawmakers of the respective areas are not showing up to the locality while living in the capital. Their politics seems to have no concerns for local people since the leaders now know election by voters is not in any way a necessity to be elected and continue to be the leader. The leftist indoctrination of the election system made physical presence of voters in an election unnecessary. But local people feel the absence of their lawmaker all the more at this critical moment to chart out how to cope with the post-flood situation and clean and repair the schools damaged by floodwaters. The lack of government initiative in the flood affected areas is demoralizing the people as they feel abandoned at this time ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
People believe that the government must ask the local lawmaker to keep their presence in their constituency and stand by the people until the floodwater receded and people can turn around to remake their life. They must give aid to the people in need and stop its misuse by dishonest people. Floods have damaged 95 percent of aman crop in the affected areas and there is a growing fear that farmers are going to count heavy losses. They need immediate loan, seedlings and fertilizer at this moment to make new plantation on the flooded field, even though in belated season.
People believe that the agricultural extension department should work all time with the affected farmers so that they can make fresh plantation. Farmers must be given all necessary inputs support free of cost at this moment.
