Helena Jahangir denied bail in fraud case

A Dhaka court yesterday rejected a bail plea submitted on behalf of expelled Awami League leader and businesswan Helena Jahangir in a fraud case filed with the capital’s Pallabi Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shafikul Islam of Dhaka CMM Court rejected the bail plea on Wednesday. Accused Helena’s lawyer Shafikul Islam filed the bail plea.
Earlier on Tuesday, another court of Dhaka granted bail to the expelled Awami League leader in a case filed with the capital’s Pallabi Police Station under the Telecommunications Act. However, she could not come out of the jail, as she faces three cases including the fraud one.
On 29 July, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Helena Jahangir from her Gulshan house and reportedly seized foreign liquors, illegal walkie-talkie sets, sharp weapons, foreign currencies, casino equipment and a hide of deer.
