Police foiled Hefazat-e-Islam’s protest rally near the Baitul Mukarram Mosque’s North Gate in the City’s Paltan area around 10:30am on Thursday.
It was organised to march towards the Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka as a mark of protest against the indiscriminate killing, crippling and raping of the Rohingya Muslims and demolishing of their houses in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.
Later, a six-member delegation led by Hefazat’s Dhaka city unit President Nur Hosaain Qasemi placed a memorandum with their demands to the Chief of the Myanmar Embassy.
Nur Hosaain Qasemi accused Myanmar of conducting genocide against the Rohingya people and urged the Bangladesh government to give the fleeing people shelter, said a Hefazat press release.
He also castigated at the United Nations for its failure to take effective action to stop the torture. The Hefazat leader urged the people to get prepared to take part in a long-march to Myanmar if their demand was not met.
Abdul Hamid (Peer of Madhupur), Abdul Latif Nezami, Zafrullah Khan, Mufti Faizullah, Ahmed Abdul Quader, Taiyub Hossain, Muhiuddin Ekram, Zubayer Ahmed, Fazlul Karim Qasemi, Jasimuddin, Mujibur Rahman Hamidee, Sheikh Lokman Hossain, Altaf Hossain, Fakhrul Islam, Faisal Ahmed and others spoke on the programme.
Meanwhile, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh announced Myanmar Embassy siege programme on December 5.
