Police have filed a case against 281 leaders and activists of Hefazet-e-Islam over Friday’s clash between police and Hefazat supporters at Chandona Chowrasta in Gazipur.
Kamrul Islam, sub-inspector of Bason police station, filed the case with the police station on Friday night.
Among the accused, names of 31 Hefazat leaders and activists were mentioned in the case while the other 250-251 were unnamed.
At least 21 people were arrested from the spot during the clash.
Officer-in-Charge of Bason police station Md. Kamrul Faruk has said they were sued on charges of preventing police from discharging duties and carrying out vandalism.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Thoai Aung Pru Marma said Hefazat activists were preparing to stage demonstrations on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
When police reached there, they attacked them, triggering a clash that left eight policemen, he said.
Mufti Nasiruddin Khan, Joint Secretary of Gazipur District Committee of Hefazat, claimed police fired rubber bullets without any provocation, leaving 15 Hefazat activists injured.
