Hefazat-e-Islam announced that it would take legal action against the attack and attempt to kill its Joint Secretary Mamunul Haque by Juba League activists.
On Sunday, Hefazat-e-Islam responded to a question from journalists and said it in a press briefing at the Dhaka Reporters’ auditorium.
Maulana Sakhawat Hossain Razi, Hefazat Central Assistant Secretary General, said Mamunul married a second time two years ago in accordance with Shariah and the woman with him was family member.
“But he [Mamunul] was attacked yesterday. It was a premeditated attack. His second wife is also facing character assassination.
The Hefazat leader also said all the released audio clips regarding Mamunul and his family were fake.
He further said the statement made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Parliament about Mamunul was not true.
“She [Hasina] made the statement based on misinformation,”he added.
