Heavy rainfall inundates most of areas, water logging created in Khulna, Jessore

Heavy rainfall for the last couple of days has paralysed the lives of the people of Khulna city and nine upazils and water- logging has been created at most of the city and the upazila areas due to heavy rainfall caused by the depression in the Bay of Bengal.  
Incessant rain disrupted the lives of Khulna city dwellers. Water logging was created due to torrential rain in the last couple of days. Heavy rainfall submerged most of the city in knee-deep to waist deep water in the last two days causing immense sufferings to city dwellers.
Beginning in the on Wednesday midnight continued for several hours.
Forecasting officer of Khulna Met Office Amirul Azad said, 60 millimeters (mm) (approximate) of rainfall in the city was recorded in 7 hours till 10.00am yesterday. The rain is likely to continue for couple of more days due to a monsoon wind in the Bay and Mongla Port has been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number 3, he said.
Almost all the low-lying areas, residential houses, educational institutions, markets in Borobazar, Khanzahan Ali Hawkers Market, Moshiur Rahman Market, Miapara Market, Labonchara, Gallyamari, Rupsha, Natunbazar and Harintana in Khulna city have been affected by water logging, causing immense sufferings to the people.
Roads, lanes and bi-lanes in KDA Avenue, Royal and PTI intersection, Khanjahan Ali and some other low-lying areas in the city were inundated.
Owner of M/s Khalashi rice store of Khulna alleged that at least 300 mound paddy worth around Tk 3.5 lakh were damaged which was kept at his mill.
Anisur Rahman Biswas, acting Mayor of KCC said, “We are trying our best to ersolve the water logging problem in the city.”
He, however, said water logging was created at Bandabazar area at Labonchara in the city as two businessmen Mahbub Brothers and Sing Mong Cement Factory constructed establishment after grabbing KCC land.
“The incessant rainfall created all these, but the situation worsened as the rain water did not remove due to obstacle created by the two businessmen,” he said.
Jessore Correspondent adds: People of Jessore sadar, Abhaynagar, Monirampur, Keshabpur, Bagharpara, Chaugachha, Jhikargachha and Sharsha upazila had to endure untold sufferings due to rain.
A vast tract of land went under deep water due to a landfall that stayed Jessore till 12 noon on Wednesday. Some 200 millimeter of rainfall is recorded in Jessore till 5pm since 6am on Wednesday, said an official of Jessore Force based Met office.
Dr Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner, Jessore told that people of the district could not be able to get out of their residence due to heavy rain that started on Tuesday evening. ‘A vast area of land went under water and many trees uprooted due to rain,’ Dr Humayun added.
