The loading and unloading of bulk-cargoes ships at the outer anchorage at the port was hampered to maximum extents owing to heavy rain while operational activities in container handling in the inner berths also affected, port sources said.
Handling of bulk cargos totally stranded but container handling is continuing with some extents in inner berths.
All the lightering vessels remain stranded in the port channel and no operator is booking the lightering vessel for lightering from outer berth.
Water Transport Cell official Mahbubu Rashid told that only 9 lighter vessels booked f or carrying cargo from mother vessels of outer berth but these lighter vessels could not sail due to rough sea weather.
Sources said there are a number cargo vessels loaded with bulk wheat, soyabean, salt, cement clinkers. Member(Admn&Planning) Jafar Alam told that the container handling inside the port is normal but in outer berth hampered a lot due to rough sea.
