Heavy monsoon rains, mountain slopes and tidal waters have submerged the lower parts of the port city. Chandnaish, Satkania, Raozan and other upazilas are also getting water from the hill slope.
The road has sunk somewhere. Water has entered the houses and shops on the ground floor. Lots of yellow sandstone has also come down with water in the hilly areas. All in all, people have suffered. The Patenga Meteorological Office recorded 166 mm of rain in 24 hours till 3 pm yesterday.
Knee water has been seen roads in different areas including Agrabad CDA Residential, Shantbagh, Halishahar, Chawkbazar, Bakalia, Chandgaon and chaktai. The commodity wholesale market of Chaktai-Khatungong badly affected with rain & tidal water.
The water enters in the commodity godowns there in ground floor, sufferers sources added. Kitchen markets of Chowkbazar, Bahaddarhat Bibirhat badly affected. Vaccination centers, banks, hospitals, office-going people have been seen kneeling and reaching the destination by rickshaw.
Ujjwal Kanti Pal, assistant meteorologist in Patenga Meteorological Office, told that Chittagong seaport has been asked to hoist warning signal number 3 and river port has been asked to hoist naval warning signal number 2.
