Heat wave to persist for few more days

Although the heat wave has slightly decreased in Dhaka division, the hot climate and sufferings of people will persist across the country for a few more days, says a meteorologist. Abdur Rahman, the meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), on Sunday told The New Nation that a mild to moderate heat wave is still sweeping over Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.
High daytime and night time temperatures will remain nearly unchanged and high humidity will prevail in the country, he said, adding a low lies over neighbouring Indian State of West Bengal and its adjoining areas, extending its furrow to the North Bay.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast shows thunder storm or bouts of windy rain in some places of Sylhet and Chittagong divisions during the next 24 hours. Other districts, such as, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barisal may also face thunder shower or rain in one or two places.
The highest temperature recorded in Jessore district on Sunday was 37.6 degree Celsius. The sky will remain partly cloudy. In the capital Dhaka, the highest temperature recorded yesterday was 32.2 degree Celsius.
The hot weather is forcing the people to remain indoors at day time and to visit parks and open spaces during evenings in the hope of some relief. The aged and children are suffering most from the hot air blowing across the districts.
Sultan Ahmed, an elderly gentlemen, told this correspondent that in the capital ‘furnace’ like condition is prevailing due to the heat wave and traffic jam. Health related conditions are arising and people are looking for ways to get relief from these extreme climatic conditions.
Ice-cream shop owners have reported a good business in the past weeks and cold beverage sellers are also happy with their selling rate.
