Hearings on charge framing against 67 BNP leaders now Nov 5

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday deferred the hearings on charge framing in two cases filed with Paltan and Shahbagh Police Stations against 67 BNP leaders and activists including the party’s Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed to November 5.
As one of the accused of the cases, Habibur Rashid Habib, General Secretary of
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, who is already in jail custody, was not produced to the court, defense lawyer Joynal Abedin Mesbah sought time in the cases. Magistrate Tarek Moinul Islam Bhuiyan of the court granted the time petitions and set the new date.
The two cases were filed with the police stations under the Speedy Trial Act in connection with alleged vandalism and arson on March 3 last year.
Twenty six leaders were made accused including Mirza Fakhrul in the case filed with Paltan Police Station while 41 including BNP leader Barrister Moudud were made accused in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
Among others Mirza Fakhrul and Barrister Moudud were present in the courtroom.
