Hearing on Zia Trust cases on July 6

The Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka on Thursday fixed July 6 for the next hearings in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case and the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
On the occasion Begum Khaleda Zia appeared in the court set up in Old Dhaka’s Bakshibazar area and Judge Dr Md Akhteruzzaman of the court fixed the new date in her presence. Earlier, the BNP Chief’s lawyers crossed-examined the Investigation Officer of the case.
The hearing was also adjourned for the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case after Khaleda Zia’s lawyers pleaded for time citing that the case was awaiting a decision in the High Court. The case was filed on July 3, 2008 accusing Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and four others on charge of embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore forming a “fake” trust which allegedly existed only in paper. Harunur Rashid, an Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigated the Zia Charitable Trust case. The was filed by the ACC on August 8, 2011 against the BNP Chief and three others for embezzling Tk 31.5 million.
