Hearing on the writ petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking its directive on the government to send her to the United Hospital or any other specialized hospital in Dhaka for treatment had been deferred and it may be held today (Tuesday).
The case was in the yesterday’s cause-list of the HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Ahmed Sohel. But the bench did not hold hearing as the lawyers of the BNP Chairperson sought time. The court passed order as ‘not today’.
On Sunday, Barrister Muhammad Nawshad Zamir, one of the counsels for Khaleda Zia, filed the writ petition with the High Court and it was in the cause-list on Monday for hearing.
But Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Barrister Kayser Kamal sought one day time from the court and the court granted it.
Deputy Attorney General Moklesur Rahman was present in the court for the State.
Citing from the petition, Barrister A K M Ehsanur Rahman, another counsel for Khaleda Zia, said, the writ was filed as her fundamental rights are violated. “Not giving proper treatment to Khaleda Zia is contrary to the Articles 32 and 35(5) of the Constitution.”
Khaleda Zia has been serving in jail since February 8 this year after a Dhaka court convicted and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust case.
Khaleda is now facing 37 cases. She has secured bail in all but three cases— two in Comilla and one in Dhaka.
