Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday fixed October 8 for hearing on a Police plea to place cricketer Kazi Shahadat Hossain alias Rajib’s on remand in a case filed for torturing his domestic help.
Magistrate Md Nuru Mia of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Tuesday after Shafiqur Rahman, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, sought a seven-day remand to interrogate Shahadat about the incident.
Shahadat, who was on the run since the injured 10-year old domestic help of his house was rescued, surrendered to the court on Monday, a day after his wife Jesmin Jahan Nitto was arrested. Later, a Dhaka court sent her to the jail rejecting her bail petition and the remand plea of police. However, the court allowed the police to interrogate her at the jail gate within three working days.
On Monday, the CMM Court of Dhaka also sent Shahadat to the jail, rejecting his bail petition. The court also set October 12 for submission of probe report about the incident.
Khandaker Mozammel Hossain, who is a journalist, filed the case against the couple with Mirpur Model Police Station on September 7 after rescuing 10-year-old domestic help Happy from the city’s Pallabi area.
