Hearing on Gatco case now July 15

The hearing on charge framing in the Gatco graft case filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 16 others wasyesterday (Tuesday) deferred to July 15.
Judge Abu Syed Diljar Hossain of the Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka fixed the date on Tuesday as Khaleda Zia’s lawyers filed a petition seeking time.
Earlier, on May 15, the judge deferred the date to June 18 for the indictment hearing in the case as the accused Khaleda Zia was not taken to the makeshift court, set up in Keraniganj Jail due to her illness.
ACC filed the case with Tejgaon Model Police Station, accusing Khaleda Zia and several others of misappropriating about Tk 1,000 crore while dealing with Global Agro Trade (Private) Company Limited (Gatco).
On May 13, 2008, the anti-graft watchdog ACC pressed charges against Khaleda Zia and 23 others.
Meanwhile, seven other accused, including Khaleda Zia’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, were dropped from the charge sheet after their deaths.
