Hearing on Gatco case deferred

A special judge court of Dhaka yesterday deferred the hearing on charge framing in Gatco corruption case against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 17 others to April 30.
The BNP chief was not produced in the special court set up at Alia Madrasa, Bakshibazar in Old Dhaka on Wednesday as she has been undergoing treatment at BSMMU.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder pleaded for adjourning the hearing for her client’s absence.
In April, Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in Zia Orphanage and Charitable trust graft cases, has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University from the old central jail in Old Dhaka, for treatment.
Responding to the time petition, Judge Abu Syed Diljar of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 fixed April 30 for hearing on framing charge in the case.
Earlier on March 18, the same court deferred to April 17 the hearing on charge framing in Gatco corruption case.
The BNP chief was not produced in the special court at Alia Madrasa of Bakshibazar in Old Dhaka on that day due to her illness.
