Court Correspondent :
Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court yesterday (Wednesday) deferred hearing on charge framing against 41 BNP leaders and activists, including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to January 14.
Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Md Ruhul Amin passed the order after a petition was submitted to it by the defense counsel seeking more time. The case was filed in connection
with the March 2 violence of last year. Thirty-seven BNP men, including its standing committee members Mirza Abbas , Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and Barkatullah Bulu, appeared in the court on Wednesday but Mirza Fakhrul was absent from the courtroom.
Ramna Police Station of the city filed the case against the 41 BNP men and 1,200 unnamed people accusing them of obstructing law enforcers from discharging their duties, attempting to kill them and exploded crude bombs in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College on the Bailey Road
of the capital on March 2, 2013 during the then BNP-led 18-party opposition’s blockade programme.
Police submitted the charge sheet of the case against the BNP men on July 5, last year.
