Hearing on charge framing against BNP leaders deferred

A Dhaka court yesterday deferred charge hearing in three cases against BNP leaders including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir until Aug 10 in three separate cases.
Magistrate Tarek Mainul Islam Bhuiyan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Sunday following a petition filed by
defence lawyer seeking more time. Twenty-four BNP leaders and activists including Mirza Fakhrul, Standing Committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and joint secretaries Amanullah Aman and Barkatullah Bulu appeared before the court at about 10 am. Of the cases- one was filed with Paltan Police Station, while the other with Shahjahanpur Police Station of the capital. The total number of accused in the two cases is 46.
Of the accused, Sadeque Hossain Khoka was present in the courtroom. With permission from the court he is now abroad for his medical treatment. On March 27 last year, Detective Branch (DB) of Police submitted charge sheets of the cases.
Anisul Islam, Inspector of DB and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, submitted a charge sheet against 26 people including Mirza Fakhrul, Moudud, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Amanullah Aman and Moazzem Hossain Alal.
Meanwhile, SI Moshiur Rahman, Investigation Officer of the other case submitted another charge sheet against 44 BNP leaders and activists including Moudud, Gayeshwar, Abbas, Aman and Alal in another case filed with Paltan Police Station.
On the other hand, police submitted charge sheet in the other case filed with Shahjahanpur police against 23 BNP men including Fakhrul, Moudud, Abbas, Noman and Alal. Besides, Mirza Fakhrul will appear in other case on August 10.
Of the three cases: Two were filed with Paltan and another with Shahjahanpur police stations under the Speedy Trial Act for creating panic among people, setting fire to vehicles and obstructing police during a rally in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan office on March 2.
