Court Correspondent :
The Metropolitan Sessions Judges’ Court of Dhaka on Wednesday fixed January 30 to hear the bail pleas of BNP Standing Committee members MK Anwar, Barrister Moudud Ahmed and four others in two cases.
Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jahurul Haque gave the orders after hearing on the bail petitions. Earlier, on January 9, a Magistrate of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court rejected bail petitions of the six BNP leaders. Wednesday’s bail petition was an appeal against that decision of the CMM Court.
Other four BNP leaders are Standing Committee members Brigadier (retired) ASM Hannan Shah, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Abdul Awal Mintu and her Special Assistant Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
Hannan Shah was arrested on November 25 last year in a case filed with the Motijheel Police Station and Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed was arrested from BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters on November 30. Later he was shown arrested in separate case filed with the same police station.
On November 8 of last year, Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested MK Anwar, Moudud, Rafiqul Islam, Abdul Awal Mintu and Shimul Biswas.
Of the two cases, one was filed in connection with the murder of Police Constable Shahjahan and the other case was filed for obstructing police while they were performing their official duties, vandalism and also for blasting bombs. Advocate Sanaullah Miah with other lawyers moved the bail petitions.
