Hearing on 16th amendment adjourned

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday adjourned till Thursday the hearing on the appeal filed on behalf of the government against a High Court judgment that scrapped the 16th amendment to the Constitution.
The Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha presided over the seven-member bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday. On 10th day of the hearing, the full bench of the Appellate Division completed hearing the submissions by the amicus curiae. The court asked the Attorney General to complete his submissions on behalf of the State on Thursday. Of the Supreme Court appointed 12 amicus curiae, 10 placed their submissions in the court, but Barrister Rafiqul Haqe and Barrister Shafiqe Ahmed
did not place any submission.
Amicus Curiae Barrister Ajmalul Hossain QC argued in favour of the amendment, in contrast, nine amicus curiae vehemently opposed the 16th amendment to the Constitution. All the court appointed Amicus Curiae placed various relevant arguments, facts and legal decisions in support of their respective stances.  
The 16th amendment had empowered the Parliament to remove the Supreme Court judges on the ground of their incapacity or misbehaviour.
