Hearing of coal mine case against Khaleda deferred

A special Judge Court of Dhaka on Thursday again deferred the hearing on charge framing in the Barapukuria coal mine corruption case filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 10 others.
Judge AHM Ruhul Imran of the makeshift court, set up at the Keraniganj Central Jail, fixed September 17 as the new date for hearing in the case.
The judge accepted a petition of Khaleda’s lawyer Syed Joinul Abedin Mejbah for deffering the hearing, and fixed the fresh date. Khaleda Zia, however, was not produced before the court as she was sick.
A total of 13 persons were accused in the case. Among the accused, Jamaat leaders Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed were executed for their crimes against humanity. Former Agriculture Minister MK Anwar and M Shamsul Islam also died.
On February 26, 2008, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Md Shamsul Alam filed the case with Shahbag Police Station.
