The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Sunday deferred to August 5 the next hearing in 11 cases filed against Begum Khaleda Zia. The cases include a sedition case for her remarks about the number of martyrs during Liberation War of 1971.
Judge KM Imrul Kayes of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed the orders yesterday after hearing.
Advocates Sanaullah Mia, Syed Jaynul Abedin Mejbah and Zia Uddin were present in courtroom on behalf of Khaleda Zia and later the court passed the order.
Of the 11 cases, eight were filed with Darus Salam Police Station and
two with Jatrabari Police Station in connection with arson attack on vehicles in 2015 while the other was filed with a Dhaka court on sedition charge for her remarks about the number of Liberation War martyrs.
The case statement says that speaking at a discussion on December 21, 2016, Khaleda Zia expressed doubts about Government claims that nearly three million people had died during the Liberation War of 1971. She reportedly said, “There is a debate about how many were martyred in the Liberation War. Different books give different accounts.”
