Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain of the Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal yesterday (Wednesday) declared end of recording the deposition of journalist Atiar Howlader in the case filed against Sonagazi Police Station’s former OC Moazzem Hossain for recording slain Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement on his phone under the Digital Security Act.
Later, the court fixed October 2 to record the depositions of more witnesses in the case. The court so far recorded the depositions of six witnesses in the case. On September 11, Nusrat’s mother Shrin Akter and brother Rashed Hasan Raihan testified in the case. Complainant of the case Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon was in the court.
The case was filed against Moazzem under Sections 26/29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act 2018 over recording Nusrat’s statement on Moazzem’s phone and circulating the video clip on social media without her consent.
On April 6, Nusrat, 18, was set afire in an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended after Nusrat had accused him of sexually harassing her.
After fighting for life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to the injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit in the capital on the night of April 10, five days after the heinous incident.
