Dashing Tiger star opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal showed his maturity when he superbly explained how a healthy competition between him and Shakib Al Hasan is a big positive for him and the team.
Prior to tomorrow’s (Tuesday) match against Zimbabwe , a very relaxed Tamim talking to sports scribes on Monday at SBNS said any healthy competition inspires him and is very good for the team and said that he would have to keep performing well to compete well.
“It will be good if the competition heats up,” Tamim said after he was asked on the subject.
Despite scoring two brilliant consecutive 84-run knocks against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, Tamim did not the man of the match awards in both outings rather his very close friend Shakib hogged the headlines by being declared man of the match in both encounter played in the tri-nation series so far.
There have been many occasions when Tamim scored more runs than Shakib but could not win man of the match award as Shakib chips in with both bat and ball to win the coveted awards. Tamim however feels that healthy competition urges everyone in the team to get better.
Asked whether Shakib’s promotion up in the batting order will give more urgency for the duo to compete, Tamim said: “Healthy competition is good for the team. If I want to do better than someone, I will have to perform better than him. In fact if he [Shakib] wants to defeat me by winning the awards that is always good for the team.”
The opener said that Shakib will get to bat more overs after taking up the new number three position and reiterated that he too will have to rise up to his challenge.
