UNB, Pirojpur :
Some 41 doctors who were appointed through the 33rd BCS examination and given posting at different hospitals and clinics in the district have refrained from joining their workplaces due to lack of necessary infrastructural facilities.
Consequently, thousands of treatment seekers are being deprived of healthcare services.
Sources concerned said the government appointed 57 doctors at different health complexes, health centres and sub-health centres in seven upazilas of the district in May this year.
Of those appointed, 41, including 11 female and 30 male doctors-have yet to join their workplaces despite submitting joining reports to seven upazila health officers.
While visiting different health centres in the district, the UNB correspondent found that patients were returning home without getting treatment due to lack of doctors.
Some of them said there has been no change in the healthcare situation in the district despite appointment of new doctors.
Nazirpur Upazila Health Officer Abdul Matin said newly appointed doctors cannot join their workplaces due to lack of infrastructure facilities.
