The Health Ministry is now thinking of collecting samples from suspected Covid-19 patients through mobile booths to reduce people’s sufferings in undergoing the test.
Experts believe that the current slow testing of the samples of the corona-suspected people is only increasing the risk of infection of the virus.
They, however, said if the samples are collected through mobile booths under proper management, the risk of the infection will be reduced significantly.
But the highest health security must be ensured at the mobile booths through careful surveillance.
Many people are carrying the symptoms of the coronavirus, but struggling to undergo tests for lack of available testing facility.
Among the South Asian countries, Bangladesh is almost at the bottom of the list of sample tests in terms of population. In contrast, patient identification is the second highest in the sample test ratio. For the past two weeks, the detection rate has been fluctuating almost 20 percent every day, with 51 percent of the total infections reported in the last 14 days.
Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Bangladesh as the tally of confirmed infections in the country exceeded 63,000 on Saturday.
Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 2,635 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours as of Saturday afternoon.
Speaking at a press briefing, she said the total number of coronavirus cases in the country now increased to 63,026 with the fresh ones.
Prof Nasima said 12,486 samples were tested in 50 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 384,851 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.10 percent, she said.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.14 percent while the mortality rate is 1.34 percent in the country.
Under such circumstances, the experts suggested increasing the testing capacity to slow down the fresh transmission of the virus.
Md Habibur Rahman Khan, additional secretary to the Health Services Division, said, “We’re considering introducing some mobile booths to overcome the problem and reduce the corona testing hassles.”
