Health minister admits kit crisis

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday warned if the people do not follow the health safety advices outlined by the health ministry, hospitals will flow with the coronavirus patients.
“Number of Covid-19 patients are increasing everyday across the country. If the people are not aware and such rate of rising continue, the hospitals of our country will be filled with Covid-19 patients. So, people should be caution about the spreading of the viurs,” the health minister said.
He also said that the allocation for health sector needs to be hiked to fight against the virus outbreak.
The government will take steps to appoint additional 2000 physicians to contain the situation.
“The government will take steps watching the situation. It will appoint additional 2000 doctors if needed. Besides, the process to appoint medical technologists is going on,” Zahid Maleque said in a press briefing at the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when he went there to see off the Chinese expert team.
Besides, the Minister also said that China is working to develop coronavirus vaccine and the Chinese government has said Bangladesh will get priority if they can successfully develop vaccine.
Talking about the visit of the Chinese delegation, the minister said that Chinese Covid-19 expert team has been satisfied with the Bangladesh’s efforts in combating coronavirus spreading.
But they also pointed out several spaces and some scopes to do more. We will work on those identified areas in future, he added.
Referring to the shortages of testing kits, the minister said the government has taken steps to meet the demand and so there is no reason to worry about kits.
The 10-member team of Chinese experts, who has the firsthand experience of containing the virus and treating patients with remarkable success, came to Bangladesh with a bunch of medical equipment for a two week visits on June 8.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming, also was present in the press briefing, assured of providing vaccine to Bangladesh on priority basis.
Professor Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), representatives of the Chinese delegation and high official concerned of the Health sector, were present.
