BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said that the health minister and the two mayors of Dhaka have failed to destroy the Aedes mosque. As a result, dengue has taken a serious turn across the country.
“People are learning about the dangers of
dengue, because of the published reports on the media,” he said. Otherwise, he added, “This government would have dismissed it as a rumour. In fact, the minister and the mayors have no shame as they denied the virtual truth.”
The BNP secretary general said this while inaugurating a blood donation programme at the BNP’s Central Office at Nayapalton in the city on Monday.
He said, “Since they are not elected by the people’s vote, they have no accountability to the people.”
BNP Sr Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohail, Swecchsebak Dal President Shafiul Bari Babu and General Secretary Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Jewel were present on the occasion.
In a separate programme at the National Press Club yesterday, Fakhrul said, “When Finance Minister Mostafa Kamal was infected with dengue virus in June, the total number of dengue cases in the country was only 6.
