The High Court (HC) on Tuesday rebuked the lawyer of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) for claiming that the HC expressed satisfaction at its test report on 14 brands’ pasteurized milk. The HC bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir told BSTI’s lawyer Barrister Sarkar M R Hassan that this court has not heard about or passed any order on the issue regarding the pasteurized milk but the lawyer told the media that the HC had accepted BSTI’s test report on 14 brand’s pasteurized milk and expressed satisfaction, which was not correct.
The bench has also verbally asked the authorities concerned not to publish any information and advertisement on the pasteurized milk involving this court until it passes a written order.
The court said, few milk producing companies have published advertisement in the media claiming that the HC had expressed satisfaction at their brand.
The court fixed next Sunday for hearing on this issue.
During hearing a writ petition yesterday, Barrister Sarkar M R Hassan prayed to the court to give him two days’ time for submitting a report from the Dhaka University’s Pharmacy Department on the pasteurized milk through affidavit.
The BSTI lawyer on June 30 told reporters that the HC bench expressed satisfaction on the BSTI’s test report on the pasteurized milk as it had not detected any health hazardous substance in the pasteurized milk of the 14 brands.
Meanwhile DU Pharmacy Faculty and Biomedical Research Centre in test report said, they have found detergent in milk available in the kitchen market for consumers across the country.
Professor A B M Faruk, Director of Biomedical Research Centre unveiled the finding at Pharmacy Lecture Theatre in DU on June 25.
The HC on June 30 asked the BSTI lawyer to submit the DU’s report to this court through affidavit.
