The High Court on Monday wanted to know about the immigration and other departments’ officials’ role, who were on duty at the concerned airport, when Proshanta Kumar Halder, popularly known as PK Halder, had fled the country.
The court also wanted to know the function of the concerned investigation officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at that time.
ACC and departments concerned have been asked to comply with the order within March 15 this year.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order after holding hearing on a Suo Moto (voluntary move) ruling issued in this regard.
Meanwhile, during the hearing of the case on Monday, Bangladesh Bank has submitted a list of its 394 officials with their details who were in charges for overseeing financial institutions and money laundering matters from 2010 to 2020.
But the court on January 21 this year sought the details including names, addresses and statuses of the BB officials under three departments who were in charges for overseeing financial institutions and money laundering matters from 2008 to 2020.
The State counsel sought more time on behalf of the central bank to submit the full list. Upon hearing, the court granted them time till March 15.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan took part in the hearing on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state and Barrister Khan Mohammad Shameem Aziz appeared for the Bangladesh Bank.
In a Suo Moto move, the HC on November 19 last year wanted to know from the respondents what steps have been taken to bring back PK Halder to the country and to arrest him.
ACC Chairman, Secretary of the Home Ministry and Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka were asked to comply with the queries within 10 days.
The court also issued a rule over the issue asking the respondents to explain within 10 days as to why they should not be directed to take proper initiatives to bring back PK Halder and arrest him.
In continuation of that order, the case came to the cause-list of the HC Bench on Monday for order.
