Staff Reporter :The High Court has wanted the list of the owners who are still running tannery industries at Hazaribagh area in the city. A HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice AKM Shahidul Haque passed the order on Wednesday in response to a petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.The HC bench directed the Secretary of the Industries Ministry to submit the list in three weeks, containing names and addresses of the businessmen who are still running tannery industries in the area. Manzill Murshid, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, on behalf of the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, submitted the petition on April 12 seeking the HC directive to the industries secretary to provide the names and address of the people running tannery industries violating the HC’s judgement.Manzill Murshid told media that many people have reportedly been running tannery industries at Hazaribagh although the High Court in 2001 and 2009 directed them to relocate the tanneries to Savar by 2010. The High Court later extended the directive upto 2013. But the industries are running the tanneries in violation of the High Court order which is contempt of court, he said.Manzill said that they would pray to the High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against the tanneries owners after the industries secretary supply their names and addresses.
