The High Court will deliver its verdict today (Thursday) on appeal petitions of the 2003 sensational Jubo League leader Jalal Uddin Sarkar murder case of Gazipur, in which 11 people were sentenced to death by the trial court in 2015.
The HC bench of Justice Shahidul Karim and Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman set the date recently after concluding hearing on the death references and
appeals in the case, said Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ahmed.
He said Jalal Uddin, former Jubo League President of Kapasia upazila unit in Gazipur, was hacked to death at Balkhela Bazar area on August 17, 2003 following a political dispute.
On November 30, 2015 a Gazipur court sentenced 11 people to death for killing Jalal. Six of the 11 convicts are in jail and rest are absconding.
The six convicts, who are now in jail, are Farhad Hossain, Md Belayet Hossain Baltu, Md Ataur Rahman, Md Jaynal Abedin, Faruque Hossain and Md Abdul Alim. They filed separate appeals with the HC challenging the lower court verdict.
The absconding convicts are— Halim Fakir, Joj Mia, Mahbubur Rahman, Nurul Amin and Jewel.
