The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday fixed August 6 to deliver its verdict on the death references and appeals in the Biswajit Das murder case.
The Bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty fixed the date after hearing on the death references and appeals were concluded on Monday.
A Dhaka court sentenced eight activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, to death and 13 others to life-term imprisonment for killing tailor-shop employee Biswajit Das, 24, on December 18, 2013. Eight of the convicts are in the prison while 13 others, including two with death sentenced convicts, are on the run.
Biswajit was hacked to death in public on his way to the tailoring shop at Shakharibazar in Old Dhaka during the countrywide road-blockade programme of the 22-party alliance led by the BNP on December 9, 2012.
