Ahsanullah Master killing: HC verdict on appeals June 15

The High Court will pronounce judgment in the Ahsan Ullah Master murder case on June 15.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath fixed the date on Wednesday after the final hearing.
Attorney General Mahbuey Alam, Deputy Attorney General Rona Nahrin represented the state, while Advocate Khondakar Mahbub Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmad and A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon stood for the accused.
Attorney General said, Jubo Dal leader Nurul Islam Sarker murdered Ahsan Ullah Master, MP.
On the other hand, the defendant lawyers said
that the real culprits had not been brought to book. He was gunned down while addressing a meeting at Tongi on May 7, 2004. A speedy trial tribunal awarded death sentence to 22 people, including BNP leader Nurul Islam Sarker, and life-term imprisonment to six others.
The five death-sentenced convicts who are in jail are Nurul Islam Sarker, Mohammad Ali, Mahbubur Rahman, Amir and Jahangir alias Baro Jahangir.
The 17 absconding death-sentenced convicted are Nurul Islam Dipu, Syed Ahmed Majnu, Shahidul Islam Swapon, Hafiz alias Kana Hafiz, Anwar Hossain alias Anu, Faisal, Shohag alias Soru, Lokman alias Bulu, Al-Amin, Ratan Miah alias Baro Miah, Roni Miah, Jahangir, Raton alias Choto Raton, Abu Salam, Moshiur Rahman, Khokan and Dulal Miah.
Those who were awarded life imprisonment are Rakib Uddin Sarker alias Pappu Sarker, Ayub Ali, Jahangir, Nurul Amin, Monir and Ohidul Islam Tipu.
The bullets of the killers from automatic machine gun also killed Omar Faruq, a schoolboy, and injured several people in the attack in a meeting at Noagaon in Tongi.
Ahsan Ullah Master was elected Member of Parliament from Gazipur-2 Constituency in 1996 and 2001. He was also the Chairman of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS).
