bdnews24.com :The High Court is hearing on Tuesday a rule it had issued six years ago over making of a guideline for the appointment of Supreme Court judges. The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath will hear the rule issued on a writ petition filed by lawyer Raghib Rouf Chowdhury. The case – Chowdhury versus the secretary of the ministry of law, justice and parliamentary affairs and others – is on No. 118 of the day’s cause list published on the Supreme Court’s website on Sunday. Chowdhury filed the petition on May 30, 2010, seeking orders to make a guideline for the recruitment of the top judges. The High Court on June 6 the same year issued the rule asking the related authorities why an order to make specific guidelines and gazette them should not be issued to bring ‘transparency and competitiveness’ in the recruitment of the Supreme Court judges. The petitioner’s lawyer Hassan MS Azim told bdnews24.com the state – after six years – was yet to respond to the rule and file a report on the previous recruitment process of the Supreme Court judges, even though it had been given only a month for this. The High Court has announced it will hear from senior lawyers Dr Kamal Hosain, Rafiq-Ul Haque, Moudud Ahmed, Rokunuddin Mahmud, Ajmalul Hossain, Shafique Ahmed and AF Hasan Arif as amici curiae or friends of the court for advice.
