The High Court (HC) on Wednesday summoned the Secretary of the Ministry of industries as he failed to realise the compensation from the tannery owners of the Hazaribagh in Dhaka after the HC’s order.
The Secretary will have to appear in the court on February 7 to explain his position in this regard.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order.
Advocate Monzill Murshid took part in the hearing in this case.
On July 18 in 2016, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) fined the tannery owners for Tk 10 thousands per month per head as they failed to transfer their tannery institutions from Hazaribagh to Savar. The Industries Secretary was asked to realise the amount.
A contempt of court petition was filed as the Secretary failed to do this. After hearing this petition, the HC bench summoned the Secretary.
Appellate Division fined 150 tannery owners for Tk 10 thousands each as they were running their industries violating the court’s order. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order on July 18, 2016.
