The High Court (HC) on Sunday summoned the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the city’s two City Corporations to explain about their report on air pollution in Dhaka city submitted in the court.
The Chief Executive Officers of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will have to appear in the court on May 15.
The HC bench of Justice F R M Nazmul Ahasan and Justice K M Kamrul Kader passed the order after hearing a petition filed by a rights organization, Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
Advocate Manzill Murshid appeared in the court on behalf of the writ petition, while Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar stood for the State. Advocate Nurunnahar Akter Nupur represented the two City Corporations.
Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar said, “Upon a writ petition filed by HRPB, the HC on January 28, 2019, directed the two City Corporations to scatter water in the dust-prone areas of the capital city twice everyday so that the dust could not harm us. The court would not be happy with their routine work mentioned in the report submitted in the court. So, the court summoned the two CEOs in the court on May 15 to explain their position.”
Advocate Manzill Murshid said, “Report on implementation of the court order is not done properly. Therefore, the court expressed its dissatisfaction.”
