The High Court on Monday summoned Mohammad Ashraful Islam, assistant commissioner (Land) of Bhandaria, Pirojpur, to appear before it on June 15 in connection with the humiliation of a college teacher during the HSC examination.
An HC division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order following a writ petition filed by victim Mantaz Uddin, a cadre of the 24th BCS.
The court also asked the Chief Judicial Magistrate concerned to investigate the incident.
Senior lawyer Barrister Rafique-ul-Haq stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Tapash Kumar Biswash represented the state.
On April 9, Ashraful Islam, while discharging duty as the executive magistrate, entered an exam hall during the English 1st paper exam of HSC at Pirojpur Bhandaria Government College talking over his phone.
Mantaj Uddin who was on duty at the hall asked him about his identity whereby an altercation took place between them.
Angered, Ashraful called in UNO Manir Hossain Hawladar and police and forced the teacher to seek pardon touching his legs.
Resentment created among the members of education cadre after the photograph of the incident went viral in the social media. They staged demonstrations, including class boycott, across the country.
Later, Mantaz Uddin filed the writ with the High Court.
The Public Administration and Education secretaries, the deputy commissioner and the police super of Pirojpur have been made respondents to the writ.
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary and Barisal Education Board have formed separate probe panels to look into the incident.
