The High Court on Sunday summoned three officials of Apex Footwear Factory in Kaliakoir upazila, Gazipur, to appear before it and explain whey a worker had to give birth to her baby in the toilet of the factory.
Passing a suo moto order following a report published by a newspaper on Sunday, an HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman asked the three officials to appear before the court in person by 10:30 am on May 24 and explain their role in the incident.
The officials are -Syed Nasim Manjur, managing director of Kaliakoir Apex Footwear Factory, its inspector Azizur Rahman
and supervisor Ratan Mia. The court also ordered the Kaliakoir UNO to investigate the incident and submit a report before the court on May 24.
According to a newspaper report on Sunday, Hamida Akter, a worker of the factory, gave birth to a child at the toilet of the factory on Saturday. Later, the child was taken to a local hospital where the doctors declared it dead.
Feeling ill, Hamida Akter sought leave to supervisor Ratan Mia, who asked her to do her work attentively, said the report.
