The High Court on Thursday summoned two police officials to appear in the court on August 23 this year to explain an inconsistency in an FIR in a drug case.
The two officials are Md Miraj Hossain, a former Sub Inspector of Ashulia Police Station now posted in Shakhipur Police Station in Shariatpur district, and Md Kayser Hamid, Investigation Officer of the case who is still in Ashulia Police Station.
The High Court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice K M Zahid Sarwar passed the order after holding hearing on a bail petition filed by the lone accused of the case, Md Shahin Mia who is now in jail after being arrested on July 18 in 2020 with some drugs.
The accused filed the bail petition with the High Court recently after lower court’s rejection, said Md Mizanur Rahman, an Assistant Attorney General, who appeared in the court on behalf of the state during the hearing.
Police detained Md Shahin Mia with some drugs on July 18 in 2020 and filed a case on the same day.
The informant and the investigation officers have shown 10 grams of heroin only in the FIR, though the report prepared by the chemical laboratory of the CID mentioned that the quantity of recovered heroin was 71.25 grams. This inconsistency came into the notice of the court during the bail hearing on Thursday.
Then the court summoned the two police officials who were involved in preparing the FIR.
The state counsel said if the quantity of the drug is 71.25 grams then the accused might be sentenced to life term imprisonment.
