Staff Reporter :
The High Court on Tuesday stayed the recruitment process of six teachers in the Philosophy Department of Jahangirnagar University till June 20.
The court also asked the JU authorities to submit the relevant documents regarding appointment of the teachers to it by this time.
The HC Bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed challenging the JU authorities’ move to recruit six lecturers for the Philosophy Department.
Barrister Aneek R Haque and advocate Syeda Nasrin appeared for the writ petitioners, while Deputy Attorney General Arobinda Kumar Roy represented the State and lawyer Cumar Debul Dey argued for JU.
The JU authorities issued a circular on February 11 for appointing six lecturers for its Philosophy Department.
Four teachers of the department, Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Professor Dr ASM Anwarullah Bhuiyan, Professor Md Zakir Hossain and Assistant Professor Abdus Satter, filed the petition on June 10 with the High Court.
In the petition it was said that the circular was issued when the country was not under lockdown situation. And now, suddenly after four months on June 7, 2021 the applicants received a mere text to attend viva voce on June 12 virtually for their appointment. The entire Department, the petitioners and Academic Committee had no idea about it.
When the entire country is still under lockdown for complying with the government’s order, the Jahangirnagar University authority is doing the opposite. Classes are yet to open, but the University is in a hurry to appoint the teachers, which is absolutely absurd, malafide and arbitrary, also read the petition.
