HC stays recruiting process of 3 JU departments

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday stayed the teacher recruiting process in the departments of Government and Politics, Archaeology and Fine Arts of Jahangirnagar University for six months.
At the same time, the HC also stayed the effectiveness of a circular published on November 8, 2018, to recruit in the five posts of lecturers in those three departments.
As well as the court issued a rule on the matter asking the Jahangirnagar University authorities to showcause as to why the circular published on November 8, 2018, should not be declared illegal.
Education Secretary, Chairman of UGC, VC and Registrar of Jahangirnagar University and Chairman of the concerned departments have to comply with the rule within four weeks.
The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik Al Jalil passed the order and issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by two teacher candidates, Gazi Ibrahim Al Mamun and Md Shahidul Islam.
Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan appeared in the court on behalf of the candidates.
In a circular issued on March 2, 2010, the Education Ministry said, GPA 3.00 is equivalent to first class of old resulting system. But, the Jahangirnagar University authorities demanded GPA 4.00 for the Humanities and GPA 4.25 for the Science and Commerce background candidates instead of first class results of old system.
The lawyer said, in spite of good results in Honours and MA, his clients were not eligible to apply for the posts of Government and Politics Department as they did not have required GPA in the results of SSC and HSC.
