HC stays eviction of Bihari Camp for 8 weeks

The High Court (HC) on Monday stayed the eviction of MCC Bihari Camp (Geneva Camp) at Mirpur by the National Housing Authority for eight weeks.
The HC bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Salim passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by nine persons of the camp.
The HC also issued a rule upon 10 respondents to explain in two weeks as to why the eviction process of National Housing Authority at
Mirpur Geneva Camp without rehabilitating about 4000 Urdu speaking Muslims should not be declared illegal.
Secretary of Housing and Works, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka, District Magistrate of Dhaka, Chairman of National Housing Authority, Chairman of Rajuk, Deputy Director of National Housing Authority, Executive Engineer of Mirpur Housing Division-2 of National Housing Authority, DMP Commissioner, Deputy Police Commissioner of Mirpur Division of DMP and Officer-in-Charge of Pallabi Police Station have been made respondents.
Advocate Abdus Sattar took part in the hearing in the court for the petitioners.
Nine persons including Kawsar Parvez Bulu, President of Bangladeshi Bihari Rehabilitation Assembly, filed the petition on January 3.
