The High Court here on Wednesday ordered to maintain status quo on the police drive for two weeks against the use of tinted glasses in vehicles.An HC bench comprising Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Mohamamd Khurshid Alam passed the order following a writ petition.As per the HC order, those who wanted to use black glasses in their vehicles can submit a written application to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) mentioning the necessity of such use, which will be disposed of by the authorities concerned within a week.Besides, the HC also issued a rule asking why the government ban on the use of tinted glasses would not be declared illegal.Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), and relevant authorities have been made respondent to the rule, returnable in four weeks.On May 14, advocate Manzill Morshed on behalf of Supreme Court lawyers Asaduzzaman Siddique and Eklas Uddin filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of police drive against tinted glasses in vehicles. On April 30, the Home Ministry issued a circular banning the use of black/colorful/non-transparent/mercury glasses in all modes of vehicle.The circular also asked for the removal of such glasses by May 10. On May 11, police started operation in the capital against all artificial coverings including non-transparent and tinted glasses from car windows.
