The High Court (HC) on Wednesday stayed the proceedings of eight cases filed against BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Joint Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan on charge of vandalising cars and sabotage.
The HC also issued rule upon the respondents to show cause as to why they should not be directed to scrap the cases filed against the BNP leaders.
The HC bench of Justice Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order after hearing the stay petitions.
Proceedings of the cases would be stopped till disposal of the rule, the defence lawyers said.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan themselves took part in the hearing. Advocate Abdullah Al Mahbub and Barrister Saqib Mahbub assited them. Deputy Attorney General Sheikh Moniruzzaman Kabir stood for the State.
Seven cases against Moudud were filed in 2013 in different Police Stations of Dhaka and one case against Khokan was filed in 2015 in Paltan Police Station.
Police filed all of the cases on charge of vandalising cars and sabotage during BNP called blockade programme.
