FF scrutiny: HC stayed Ctg city, Lama Uz committees

The High Court (HC) on Monday stayed the activities of Freedom-Fighters Scrutiny Committee of Chittagong City Corporation and Lama Upazila of Bandarban district for three months.
Two separate Bench of the HC passed the order after hearing two writ petitions. The benches also issued rule on the matter.
The Benches wanted to know separately upon the government to explain as
to why the formation of two committees should not be declared illegal. The respondents have to comply these rules within four weeks.
Sources said, two freedom-fighters including S M Mahbubul Alam filed a writ petition challenging the legality of formation of Freedom-Fighters Scrutiny Committee of Chittagong City Corporation on January 18.
After primary hearing on the petition, the HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo stayed the activities of Freedom-Fighters Scrutiny Committee of Chittagong City Corporation and issued the rule.
Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua took part in the hearing on behalf of the petitioners, while Assistant Attorney General Aurobinda Kumar Roy stood for the State.
Barrister Jyotirmoy told the reporters that four members of Chittagong City Committee including its Chairman are allegedly fake freedom fighters. They were recruited in the committee violating the circular issued on January 12. So the writ was filed.
Freedom-Fighter S K H Sabbir Ahmed on Sunday filed another writ petition challenging the legality of Lama Scrutiny Committee.
After hearing on the petition, the HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice J B M Hassan stayed the activities of Freedom-Fighters Scrutiny Committee of Lama Upazila and issued the rule.
Advocate Humayun Kabir took part in the hearing on behalf of the petitioner, while Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju stood for the State.
