The High Cour (HC) on Wednesday wanted to know what steps have been taken to ensure security of the judges, lawyers and officials in the courts across the country in light of the incident of an accused being stabbed to death by another in a courtroom
in Cumilla on July 15. The HC also enquired about steps taken against those who were in charge of the security at the Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court where the incident took place.
The HC bench of Justice F R M Nazmul Ahasan and Justice K M Kamrul Kader passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hasan.
The SC lawyer in the writ petition sought directives from the HC on the authorities concerned of the government to take proper security measures for the judges and the courts on July 16.
The court adjourned hearing of the petition for two weeks and also asked the authorities concerned of the government to inform on the steps taken to ensure proper security measures in the courts across the country within July 30.
Deputy Attorney General Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar represented the government during the hearing.
In the petition, Advocate Ishrat said, her husband is a judge and she is concerned with her husband’s security following the incident on July 15. She prayed to the court to pass necessary order on this issue.
The High Court will hold further hearing on the petition after July 30.
On Monday, a murder accused was stabbed to death by another right in front of a judge and police members inside a packed courtroom in Cumilla. Such an incident exposed the lack of security in the court, lawyers said after the murder.
