The High Court has rejected the bail plea of Mia Nur Uddin alias Opu, the personal secretary of BNP leader Tarique Rahman, in a corruption case.
The bench of justices M Moazzam Husain and Md Badruzzaman issued the order Thursday in an Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) case. On July 14, Dhaka’s Third Special Judge’s Court rejected Opu’s bail plea. He moved the High Court seeking bail a week later.
The High Court had issued a ruling on the plea. Thursday’s order was given after resolving the ruling.
ACC filed the case on Oct 4, 2007 over the alleged exchange of Tk 210 million bribe for helping the accused of Basundhara official Sabbir murder case flee the country.
The court indicted several people, including BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique and his personal secretary Opu, on July 14 the following year.
Other accused in the case are-former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam, his sons Shafiat Sobhan and Sadat Sobhan, Abu Sufian, and Kazi Salimul Haq Kamal.
