The High Court (HC) has imposed a temporary sanction on readmission fees and session charges in English medium schools for the next three months.
A HC bench comprising Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Khurshid Alam Sarkar issued the injunction on Wednesday afternoon responding to a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyers Md JR Khan Robin and Muntasir Abed Faruk.
It asked the education secretary and the director generals of Directorate of Secondary and Higher
Education (DSHE) and Directorate of Primary and Mass Education to execute the order.
Meanwhile, the court has issued a rule asking the education ministry to explain why it should not be directed to form a monitoring cell and formulate a guideline to supervise admission and readmission fees collection process.
HC ordered secretaries for education, law, home, primary and mass education, Director General of directorates of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Director General of Directorates of Primary Education, and Heads of 23 English medium schools in the country to submit the explanation within four weeks.
Earlier on April 20, the lawyers filed the petition seeking HC directives to stop collecting additional fees, including readmission and session charges, in the English medium students.
According to the writ petition, the authorities of all 23 English medium schools are collecting extra fees from their students arbitrarily as there is no specific guideline.
