The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule upon the respondents as to why the three recommendations of the 9th Wage Board Award should not be declared illegal.
The three recommendations are — journalists will pay their income tax, single gratuity and the 9th Wage Board Award is applicable step by step.
At the same time the court wanted to know in the rule as to why the respondents should not be
directed to include the employees of the electronic media in the 9th Wage Board award and in the next Wage Boards.
Information Secretary and Labour Secretary have to comply with the rule within four weeks.
The High Court Bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.
On November 7, Secretary of Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) Hasan Ferdous submitted the writ petition with the High Court.
Advocate Tirtha Salil Paul took part in the hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner.
